Recyclability

CUPREE Recyclability

CUPREE is manufactured in Australia using mainly metal components, making it easy and efficient to recycle.  Water Plus has a Take-Back Policy, if required, for recycling at the end of life of the appliance.  Used filter cartridges are also recyclable.  CUPREE does not use computer PC boards and therefore there is no toxic e-waste to dispose of, which is toxic to human health and the environment.

The plastic cased used filter cartridge/s are also recyclable.

e-Waste

Toxic to human health and the environment, e-Waste is a worldwide problem.  Electronic waste in landfill leaches cadmium, lead and polyvinyl chlorides into soil and water.  It therefore, cannot be merely dumped.

As the largest producer of e-waste per capita, Canberra disposes of more electronic waste than any other State in Australia.  However, a new in initiative aimed at helping businesses recycle e-waste has been launched in the ACT.

The Conservation Council ACTNow Waste is the result of a government grant and this new network will facilitate information sharing between businesses and provide public recognition in their efforts in return.  The network will encourage businesses to identify waste, share ideas and information about recycling options, and save them time and money.

The Canberra Environment and Sustainability Resource Centre, has worked with waste recycling since 1999 and is part of ACTNow Waste.   The Centre helps businesses identify the best ways to dispose of e-waste.  As there is no legislation or regulation it's still confusing and misleading for businesses, and the cheapest option is certainly not necessarily the best.

There are growing concerns with electronic waste sent to China, the Phillipines and Nigeria where women and children work in hazardous conditions to strip components, and waste is often burned, releasing toxic fumes.
