Chief Minister launches local green innovations
Released 12/05/2009
Chief Minister and Minister for Business and Economic Development Jon Stanhope today launched two innovative new products from local company Water Plus - the water-friendly Grey Water Treatment System and an under-the-sink drinking water appliance.
"As the ACT continues to face the challenges of climate change and water shortages, companies like Water Plus provide Canberrans with the ability to not only help the environment but to also save money," Mr Stanhope said.
Water Plus has been open for business in the ACT for more than fifteen years, demonstrating its commitment to designing environmentally friendly, cost-effective and innovative products for the Canberra region. The ACT Government has supported Water Plus through its business development programs, which foster the growth of emerging, innovative local companies through funding and advice.
"The products and services provided by enterprises like Water Plus have already seen the ACT become a world leader in the development of green technologies, and these companies will be vital as Canberra's green economy continues to grow," said Mr Stanhope.
The Grey Water Treatment System processes used water from a household's bathroom and laundry and makes it available for use in gardening and other domestic purposes. Grey water can account for up to 80 per cent of household water usage.
The Cupree is an under-the-sink drinking water appliance that provides filtered chilled or boiling water. The Cupree features significantly reduced power and water consumption, improved reliability and ease of maintenance. It is designed to minimise unserviceable parts and associated electronic waste, reducing its environmental impact.
Water Plus products are available from the company's showroom, located at 64-66 Wollongong St, Fyshwick, ACT, 2609. Water Plus maintains a customer service database through which it offers ongoing maintenance of its products to ACT residents.
