The School of Artificial Intelligence of Xidian University, which is directly under the Ministry of Education of the P.R.C, is the first physical school of its kind dedicated to the R&D of advanced innovative achievements, cultivation of high-level research teams, and talent training in the field of artificial intelligence. We have two majors: "Intelligent Science and Technology", a national characteristic major and being selected into the first batch of first-class undergraduate majors in China, and "Artificial Intelligence", a national first-class undergraduate major; we also recruit master's and doctoral students, as well as international students in china, under the national "double first class" discipline clusters of "Computer Science and Technology" (ESI top 1 ‰) and "Control Science and Engineering"; In 2024, the School was granted one of the first national doctorate degree programs in "Intelligent Science and Technology". In 2022, the key discipline of "Computer Science and Technology" in the School was once again selected into the latest round of "double first class" discipline development list, and was rated A in the fifth round of national discipline evaluation. The two national "double first class" majors: Intelligent Science and Technology and Artificial Intelligence, have been awarded A + in the "ShanghaiRanking's Best Chinese Universities Ranking" for three consecutive years; In 2024, the major of Intelligent Science and Technology ranked third across China, and the major of Artificial Intelligence ranked fourth across China.
The School has a high-level faculty team with a reasonable echelon and an international perspective. At present, we have 113 full-time teachers, including 36 professors, 36 associate professors, and 41 intermediate level teachers; including 76 graduate supervisors. Among the full-time teachers, 111 of them have doctoral degrees and 2 of them with master's degrees. Currently, we have one person who is foreign academician of the European Academy of Sciences and foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 12 persons have been selected as national high-end talents for 17 times, and 15 person/times have been selected as ministerial and provincial-level high-end talents.
To meet the needs for major national strategies and international frontier advances, the School has delivered a series of innovative and irreplaceable scientific research achievements and undertaken more than 20 major scientific research projects, including key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, priority research programs, and key R&D projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology. So far, it has won two second prizes of the State Natural Science Award, seven first prizes of ministerial and provincial-level science and technology awards, etc.
The School has always focused on the fundamental task of cultivating upright well-rounded，high-caliber talents, pursued high-quality disciplinary development, and actively explored innovative methods and paths for curriculum and teaching reform and quality assurance. It has established a talent cultivation system that integrates undergraduate, master's, and doctoral education with "internationalized + Xidian characteristics", scientific research + innovative practice collaborative education with "international academic frontiers + national major needs", as well as the "high-level platform that serves the need of high-level talent". We have won five second prizes of the National Teaching Achievement Award, one special prize and two first prizes of the Shaanxi Provincial Teaching Achievement Award, one virtual teaching and research office of the Ministry of Education, three national first-class undergraduate course, eight first-class undergraduate courses in Shaanxi Province, and two demonstration courses and teaching teams for ideological and political education in Shaanxi Province. Thanks to 10+ years of exploration and practice into science and education integration, graduates of AI-related disciplines are highly favored by major military research institutions, state-owned enterprises, foreign-funded enterprises/Sino-foreign joint ventures, cooperative business, and exclusively foreign-funded enterprise, well-known companies and universities, and more than 100 alumni have grown into leaders in the academic and industrial fields of AI in China.
